Dubai: A watchman has been accused of forcing a woman cleaner to have sex with him while she was cleaning his sponsor’s bedroom in a villa.
The 31-year-old Indian watchman, A.V., was said to have asked the 32-year-old Filipina cleaner to sit beside him on the bed before he raped her in July.
The incident took place in the villa of the suspect’s sponsor in The Meadows.
Prosecutors charged the defendant with raping the Filipina.
The suspect, who is on bail, entered a not guilty plea when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
“I did not rape her… we had consensual sex,” A.V. argued before presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat.
The cleaner testified to prosecutors that the incident happened while the villa was empty.
“The suspect was the only person present at the villa on a Saturday afternoon. I was making one of the beds in a room on the upper floor. He walked in and asked me to sit on the bed. When I asked him why, he pushed me down on the bed and removed my clothes. I tried to resist him and push him away, but I couldn’t stop him. He forced me to have sex with him and, after he finished, he asked me not to tell anyone what happened. He pinned me down and used force. I was too scared and cried a lot and that was why I could not call for help,” she claimed to prosecutors.
A policeman claimed to prosecutors that the woman lodged a rape complaint at Jebel Ali police station.
“She claimed that A.V. exploited the fact that his sponsor and wife were out when he forced himself on her. Although the watchman asked the Filipina, according to her statement, not to tell anybody what he did… she rushed to the police station and informed them what happened. The defendant was at the villa at the time of his arrest,” testified the policeman.
The court will appoint a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes on April 27.
