Dubai: A waiter has been accused of getting drunk and attempting to hug and kiss a waitress against her will at 3.30am while she was walking home after work.

The 25-year-old Pakistani waiter was said to have walked towards the Filipina waitress, then pulled her by her jacket and tried to hug and kiss her, but she pushed him and ran away in February.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with attempting to molest the waitress while he was under the influence of liquor.

The suspect entered an innocent plea when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.

“Did you try to kiss the claimant?” presiding judge Urfan Omar asked the suspect.

“No, Sir, I did not. I was very drunk and I do not know or remember what happened,” he replied.

The 24-year-old Filipina testified to prosecutors that the incident happened shortly after she finished work and was going home.

“I was going home at 3.30am when the suspect blocked my way and did not let me pass. Then he grabbed me by my jacket and pulled me towards him, wanting to kiss me. I resisted him and tried to move back… he pulled me again and tore my jacket. I sustained slight injuries when I resisted him. Afterwards I reported the matter to the police,” claimed the waitress.

Dubai Police’s forensic examiner confirmed that the Filipina had minor injuries toher palms as she fell on the ground while resisting the defendant.

In his prosecution statement, the suspect admitted that he had consumed liquor.

The Filipina identified the suspect at the police line up three times.

During Thursday’s hearing, the suspect sought mercy.

A ruling will be heard on April 30, while the defendant remains in custody.
