Dubai: A visitor has been accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy while he was watching the dancing water show at the Dubai Fountain at Dubai Mall, heard a court on Sunday.

The Saudi boy was said to be standing at the edge of the balcony watching the Dubai Fountain show in September when the 45-year-old Omani visitor jammed him from behind.

The teenager tried to move away several times, but the place was too crowded and the Omani repeatedly pressed his body against the boy’s back in an abusive way.

A Sudanese security guard spotted the visitor clutching the boy in an inappropriate manner around 7pm.

Records said the guard went to the boy’s mother and alerted her that her son had been calling her but she couldn’t hear him due to the loud music.

The boy told his mother that the Omani man had touched him in an indecent way.

The guard then took the visitor to the police office at the mall.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with molesting the Saudi boy.

The suspect failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Sunday. The Sudanese guard testified to prosecutors: “While accompanying the suspect to the police office at the Mall, he claimed to me that he was seduced by the devil and apologised for what he had done.”

A police corporal claimed to prosecutors that the boy was frightened by the suspect’s giant size and called his mother after he was molested.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi will sentence the suspect in absentia on December 27.
