Dubai: A valet parking attendant at an hotel in Dubai has been accused of stealing an iPad from a guest’s vehicle when he took it to the underground parking.

The 20-year-old Pakistani valet parking attendant, B.S., was said to have collected the Saudi guest’s sports utility vehicle to park it in the parking lot when he stole the iPad in March.

Prosecutors accused the suspect to theft.

“Yes, I am guilty. I did steal the iPad,” said the defendant when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said B.S. abused his job as a valet parking attendant and stole the iPad worth Dh700.

When asked by presiding judge Mohammad Jamal what he required from the court, the suspect replied: “I want mercy.”

The Saudi guest testified to prosecutors that the incident happened when he dropped off his car at the valet parking and went up to his room at the hotel in Bur Dubai.

“I went up to my room and slept. Around noon I left my room and went to my car … I did not find my iPad when I checked my belongings. I informed the hotel and reported the matter to the police,” he claimed.

The defendant was cited admitting to prosecutors that he stole the iPad from the guest’s car.

A ruling will be heard on May 5.
