Dubai: Two men have been jailed for life for confining a jobseeker in a car and attempting to rape her.

The Pakistani men, 30-year-old M.M. and 32-year-old S.N., lured the 37-year-old Filipina jobseeker to their car claiming that they wanted to take her to their company for a job interview in May.

They kept the car doors locked and forcibly stripped her after they tied her up with wires of phone chargers.

However, the duo backed down and did not rape the jobseeker after they realised she was menstruating.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted M.M. and S.N. of kidnapping the woman and attempting to rape her and stealing her cash and mobile phone and threatening to kill her.

Presiding judge Ahmad Mohammad said the duo will be deported following the completion of their jail term.

The duo refuted all their accusations as they pleaded not guilty.

The Filipina met the suspects in Al Ghubaiba area where they picked her up. They also threatened to kill her.

The Filipina said the duo posed as employers when they claimed to her that they had spotted her CV on Dubizzle.

“Shortly after I posted my CV on Dubizzle, the defendants called me … I was looking for a job during my visit here. They picked me up from Al Ghubaiba bus station … they claimed that they had to take me to the company’s premises in Abu Dhabi for an interview and to familiarise me with the place. S.N. drove while M.M. sat beside me. The latter flirted with me and touched me … he told me that he had fallen in love with me at first sight and wanted to marry me. I prevented him from touching me. They stopped in an uninhabited area and switched seats and then S.N. molested me. The two assaulted me and tied me up with the wires of battery chargers. They abused me sexually,” she testified.

The defendants’ court-appointed lawyers asked the presiding judge to hand their clients lenient punishments because they had agreed to have paid sex with the woman.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
