Dubai Three men lost their appeal and will spend five years in jail for attacking a businessman with swords and knives and stealing his company’s revenues worth Dh200,000.

The Chinese trio, L.Q., H.L. and C.W., used sharp tools when they attacked their countryman, pulled him out of his car and stole his money in 2014.

Two of the victim’s Chinese friends, who were present with him in his car, were also assaulted.

The Dubai Appeal Court upheld a five-year jail term against each of trio who were convicted of attacking the businessman and his two friends with sharp tools and stealing the money.

Presiding judge Eisa Mohammad Al Sharif also upheld the primary court’s decision to refer the businessman’s civil lawsuit to the Dubai Civil Court.

The trio, who had pleaded not guilty, will be deported after serving their punishments.

The victim said the defendants attacked him shortly after he closed his office and headed to his car with his friends in Deira.

“I sat in the driver’s seat while my friends sat beside me and in the back. Suddenly, five men armed with swords and knives showed up out of nowhere and opened the doors. They pulled me out by force and started assaulting me with the swords and knives. My friends jumped out of the car and tried to defend me, but the attackers assaulted them as well. They stole my company’s revenues of Dh200,000 in cash. I was injured in my head, arm and legs. The attackers ran away,” he claimed.

A police officer said primary interrogations revealed that the trio was in Dubai International City.

“A police team was tasked to raid their residence and arrest them. Police detained H.L. first in an apartment in the Chinese Cluster with Dh5,300 in his possession. During questioning, he denied any involvement in the robbery. The businessman and his friends identified H.L. at the police line up thrice,” the officer claimed.

The rest were arrested later.

The appellate ruling remains subject to appeal before the Cassation Court within 25 days.
