Dubai: Three workers, who were found to be running a brothel, have been jailed for five years each.

Dubai Police were notified about a man who had injured himself after he fell from the second-floor flat of a building near a restaurant in April.

The Indian worker, 28, had a bleeding arm bandaged with a white cloth. When police arrived they accompanied him to check the flat from where he had fallen at 12.15am.

Police called for backup and an ambulance and when the officers reached the second floor, it was discovered that someone had been locked up inside the flat.

After breaking down the door, police discovered two men, who claimed that they had come to have sex in the flat, and that a fight had taken place in the flat.

On Sunday, the Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the Indian and two Bangladeshi workers, 36 and 33, to five years in jail for running a brothel and charging clients Dh50 per visit.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi also fined the three defendants Dh100,000 each.

According to Sunday’s ruling, the court also jailed a 25-year-old Indian woman for three years for working as a prostitute.

Presiding judge Al Shamsi said the three men and the woman will be deported following the completion of their punishments.

A police sergeant testified that after raiding the flat, they discovered that it was being run as a brothel.

“The flat had been divided into wooden compartments and separated by curtains … in each compartment there was a bed. On-site investigations revealed that one of the defendants had lured two Arab men to the brothel to have sex for Dh50 each … the two clients fought with the defendants, who locked the men in the flat. They exchanged blows and then fought with broken glass … some of them was injured. The woman defendant admitted that she had been willingly working as prostitute,” he said.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal.
