ABU DHABI: A woman visitor is being tried at the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance for illicit sexual relations with a friend in the UAE.

The 32-year-old was accused of having sex out of wedlock and kissing other compatriots who stayed in an apartment with her.

Presiding judge of the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance asked the woman:“You don’t know that having sexual intercourse and intimate kissing out of marriage are considered a crime in the UAE?”

She denied both the charges and the court asked her to produce evidence through a defence lawyer.

The prosecution has charged her with having sexual intercourse out of wedlock and kissing others intimately.

The trial started Tuesday, while the next hearing is scheduled for September 6.

In another case, two Arab nationals who were charged with having illicit relations and kissing out of wedlock, appeared before the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

The prosecution has charged them with having sex outside marriage.

But both accused denied the charges before the court, which prompted the judge to ask them: “You commit the crime and then here you deny that.”

“So if you deny these charges, then produce evidence in the next hearing and defend your case,” the judge ordered.

The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for September 6.
