Dubai: Three women have been handed jail terms of an year each for working as prostitutes and stealing Dh200,000 from a man who had Dh1 million in cash in his possession upon being lured into their flat by one of them.

The Nigerian man, B.Z., discovered following his visit to the flat in Al Nakheel area in February that Dh200,000 of the Dh1 million he had been carrying was missing.

B.Z. lodged a complaint with the police that he had been robbed.

Police found that the three women, 27-year-old R.N., 35-year-old L.N. and 32-year-old S.N., were working as prostitutes.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Ugandan women and jailed them for working in the sex industry after they pleaded guilty.

According to Sunday’s ruling, presiding judge Mohammad Jamal said: “The trio will be placed under police supervision for one year. They will also be deported after serving their punishments.”

When asked if they used to get paid for sex, R.N. told the court: “Yes, we work as prostitutes and we used to have sex with men for money.”

A policeman said B.Z. walked into the police station and complained that he had been robbed at 12.30am. “He said that he entered the flat to have paid sex with L.N. He put his Dh1 million beside the bed; he claimed that R.N. and S.N. stole his Dh200,000. The Nigerian man alleged that he tried to restrain L.N., but she and the other two ran away. Primary interrogations revealed that the Ugandan women lived in Sharjah. They were apprehended in cooperation with Sharjah Police.

“The three women admitted that they stole B.Z.’s money and that they worked in prostitution and used to charge each client Dh50. Upon examining the mobile of one of the defendants, a video footage was found of the trio celebrating their robbery,” the policeman testified to prosecutors.

The Ugandan defendants stood trial before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for robbing B.Z.

B.Z. and L.N. were also tried for having consensual sex.

Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
