Dubai: A woman lost her appeal and will spend two years in jail for killing a man, whom she claimed to be her pimp, after he assaulted her.

In February, the Dubai Court of First Instance acquitted the 25-year-old Bangladeshi woman, N.B., of stabbing the alleged pimp, F.S., and killing him following a heated argument.

The deceased had been drinking liquor before he assaulted N.B. after a prostitute ran away from the flat in August.

A 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman, H.S., was also acquitted of aiding and abetting F.S. by inciting her to assault F.S.

According to the primary judgement, N.B. and H.S. were jailed for one year each for working in prostitution.

Prosecutors appealed the two women’s acquittal [regarding the killing charge] and asked the Appeal Court to imprison the defendants.

Presiding judge Eisa Al Sharif overturned the acquittal of N.B. and H.S. and jailed them for two years each.

Their one-year imprisonment was upheld. The duo face three-year imprisonment each.

The two defendants had pleaded admitted that they worked in prostitution but denied any involvement in the death.

Records said F.S. told N.B. that she had to pay him Dh6,000 after the other prostitute absconded and that she had to sleep with men to earn that money. H.S. ran the flat [inside which the murder happened and from where the other prostitute absconded] as a brothel.

According to the appellate ruling, the two women will be deported after serving their three-year imprisonment.

After the victim assaulted N.B., H.S. gave the 25-year-old a knife and told her to kill F.S., said records.

Dubai Police’s forensic examiner said the victim sustained severe knife cuts in the main veins and arteries of his left thigh before he succumbed to severe bleeding.

An Iranian testified that N.B. knocked on his door at 5am wanting to enter his flat and hide from the police.

“Her clothes were soaked with blood … I prevented her from entering my flat. I walked out of my flat and saw bloodstains all around the walls and the stairway. I went to the next floor and found bloodstains on the door of flat number 4. Then I knocked on my neighbour’s door [flat 3] and he called the police,” he claimed.

A police lieutenant testified that primary investigations revealed the involvement of N.B. and another man [A.H.] in the killing.

“A.H. was arrested two days later. Further questioning revealed that he was present in the flat but ran away once the fight between N.B. and F.S. started. He did not witness the stabbing incident. The 28-year-old woman was arrested in Al Ain. During questioning, she claimed that the victim had convinced her to leave her sponsor’s house in Abu Dhabi where she worked as a maid. Then he made her work for him in prostitution until the other prostitute ran away,” claimed the lieutenant.

The appellate ruling remains subject to appeal before the Cassation Court within 20 days.
