Dubai: A salesman, who molested an eight-year-old girl while she was taking a shower at Jumeirah open beach where she was spending a day with her family, has been jailed for a year.
The 38-year-old Eritrean salesman, T.B., was naked when he walked behind the Russian girl, and molested her at the open showers at the Jumeirah Beach in May.
The girl was present with her mother and a group of tourists enjoying a day at the beach when the incident happened.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted T.B. of molesting the girl despite his having pleaded not guilty.
The man was unclothed when he came from behind the girl and molested her, said record.
According to Thursday’s ruling, presiding judge Urfan Omar said the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
The girl’s mother testified that the incident happened when she went to buy some cold drinks at the beach.
“My daughter went to the open sprinklers to have a shower … there was a naked man. He came from behind and hugged her … he touched and kissed her against her will. My daughter pushed him away quickly and ran away. We reported the matter to the police who came and apprehended him,” she told prosecutors.
A Russian tourist confirmed the mother’s statement and claimed that T.B. groped the girl.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
