Dubai: A man, who claimed he was charmed and enchanted by a woman’s beauty when he groped her in the canteen of her company, has been jailed for three months. The 39-year-old Jordanian employee, A.A., visited the company where the Filipina woman worked to deliver some presents to the manager in October.
After he asked the Filipina to get him some water to drink, he walked behind her to the canteen and molested her.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted A.A. of molesting the Filipina.
A police lieutenant, who questioned the defendant, had cited him as saying that he was charmed by her beauty when he molested her.
Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal said the accused will be deported after serving his punishment.
The Filipina said the incident happened shortly after the defendant asked her for a glass of water.
“He came to the office around 6.45pm to deliver some presents to my boss. When I told him that the manager was absent, he asked me to bring him water. Then he walked behind me into the canteen where he touched me indecently. I scolded him and he left the place … but he returned after a while and begged me not to inform my boss,” she testified.
A police lieutenant testified that the defendant was arrested two days after the incident.
“During questioning, the accused said he was enticed by the clerk’s beauty before he molested her. He claimed that the woman yelled at him and kicked him out of the company … he returned shortly after to apologise to her, but she happened to be crying,” said the lieutenant.
Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
