Dubai: An inspector has been accused of pulling out a drunk hairstylist from a taxi, driving her to a sandy area and raping her.

The 24-year-old Moroccan hairstylist had just walked out of a nightclub where she had been drinking with her friend when the 23-year-old Emirati inspector ordered their taxi to pull over.

Once the inspector presented what was claimed to be a police ID, the hairstylist and her friend stepped out of the taxi, according to records, and started walking away in March 2014.

The inspector asked hairstylist’s friend, a waiter, to give him his identity card and asked him to leave once he realised that he resides in Dubai.

The inspector told waiter that the hairstylist will go with him to the police station for being drunk and because she is a resident of another emirate.

It is believed that the inspector forced the hairstylist into his car, drove to a sandy area behind the buildings where she lives and raped her.

Records said the hairstylist did not report the incident to police for two days because she was drunk.

Having had snatched the hairstylist’s mobile during the alleged incident and dialled his own number to save her mobile number, police identified the suspect from his contact details.

Prosecutors accused the 23-year-old suspect of having forced sex, threat and physical assault. He was also accused of posing as a police officer.

According to available documents no reason has been given as to why the case being referred to court after nearly four years.

When the suspect appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday, he pleaded not guilty and refuted accusations.

“Nothing happened between you two?” presiding judge Mohammad Jamal asked the suspect.

“No. Nothing at all,” responded the suspect in an affirmative and high tone.

The hairstylist told prosecutors that the suspect stopped their taxi and told them he was a policeman.

“I was drunk and when he took my ID card and asked me to sit in his vehicle. He then drove his car to a poorly lit area where he slapped me and pulled my hair when I refused to take off my clothes. Then he yelled and pulled my hair again and I had to remove my clothes because I was petrified. Then he raped me, left me outside the car and drove away. My friends urged me to report the matter to the police … I did so after two days because I was still drunk,” she told prosecutors.

A police lieutenant told prosecutors that the suspect alleged during questioning that he had agreed to pay Dh1,000 to Moroccan woman for sex after he met her outside the nightclub. Later she complained that he raped her because he didn’t pay her the money.
