Dubai: A salesman was handed suspended imprisonment and fined Dh20,000 for posting his ex-girlfriend’s partly nude photos on Facebook and threatening to kill her after she broke up with him.

The 39-year-old Filipina was having a relationship with the 32-year-old Pakistani salesman and used to hang out with a group of friends at the beach.

Shortly after problems started between the two, the Filipina broke up with the 32-year-old and stopped hanging out with him as early as this year.

When they used to hang out at the beach, the Pakistani used to take photos of them with the group of friends.

The Filipina and the Pakistani often communicated with each other on Facebook on different pages of friends’ groups.

He shared on those Facebook pages images of his ex-girlfriend in her partly nude clothes and cursed her and her friends besides threatening them.

Once he did so, the Filipina informed the police and complained that she had been slandered and maligned by those private images.

On Thursday, the Dubai Court of First Instance handed the defendant a six-month suspended imprisonment citing grounds of leniency.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar also slapped the accused with a Dh20,000 fine and ordered his deportation following the completion of his punishment.

The defendant misused Facebook and breached the Filipina’s privacy when he published her indecent photos. He also posted Facebook messages and comments in which he threatened to kill her and her friends and to have sex with them.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Filipina said the incident happened shortly after she broke up with the suspect in June.

“Once we had problems, he posted on Facebook pictures of me in the underwear at the beach. He had taken those photos when we were together. He slandered me on Facebook messenger and breached my privacy before friends, who were also part of that chat group. He also threatened to kill us and have sex with us,” she said.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
