Dubai: An employee, who was accused of locking a naked woman outside his flat shortly after he assaulted her physically and raped her in his bedroom, was sentenced to three years in jail on Monday.

The jobless Uzbek woman was visiting the 39-year-old Emirati employee at his flat to discuss the details of her criminal case since he was her guarantor in January.

Shortly after she greeted his kids, the defendant sent his kids to bed before he jumped on the woman, undressed and raped her.

Every time she tried to fend the man off her, the 39-year-old would pin her down and continue having sex with her against her will, said records.

After the sexual assault, the man kicked her out of his flat and locked out though she was naked.

The Uzbek woman rushed to the adjacent flat occupied by a number of Russian women, who gave her clothes to cover up before she went and reported the matter to the police around 7pm.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the accused in absentia after he had failed to show before presiding judge Urfan Omar to present his written defence.

The accused was apprehended four days, after the victim had reported him, from the rooftop room where he had been hiding in Al Nahda.

The defendant had refuted the allegations of raping the woman and molesting her.

When asked if he had locked her naked outside his flat, the accused denied and said the door was open and she went out on her own.

The Uzbek testified that she knew the defendant since he had bailed her out in a criminal case that she was facing at the Naturalisation and Residency Prosecution.

“I visited him at his residence several times to discuss my criminal case. I never slept over at his flat and we never kissed or had sex before. I stay with my sister in Sharjah. That day, I went to his place to discuss my case and we sat at the balcony where he had been drinking liquor. He had a heated argument with his children and sent them away, and then he yelled at me, grabbed my phone and tossed it out the window. When I tried to leave the flat, he pulled me by my hair and dragged me into the bedroom. He turned physically violent and raped me. He abused me for nearly two hours. I injured myself when I fell to the ground while trying to protect myself. When he finished, he dragged me again by my hair and pushed me out of the flat where I was left outside naked,” she said.

A police lieutenant said the CCTV footage showed the woman arriving at the defendant’s flat and chatting with his children at the door around 4.30pm.

“The woman was also seen undressed when she was left outside. During questioning, the accused said he had been having consensual sex with the Uzbek for a year. He claimed that he locked her outside naked because he had a heated argument with her that day,” the lieutenant said.

Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
