Dubai — A man, who lured a mentally challenged teenager to his car, drove away and parked in an unlit street where he sodomised him, has been jailed for 10 years.

The 18-year-old Indian victim was walking near his family’s house when he met the 34-year-old Pakistani man and exchanged mobile numbers in February.

The man called the teen around 9pm and talked him into going for a car ride before he parked in an unlit street in Al Rashidiya where he raped him.

Medical reports confirmed that the Indian suffers from a form of light mental disability and was not aware of his actions.

At 11.30pm and shortly after the youth’s father came to know what had happened to his son, he took him to the police station and lodged a rape complaint against the Pakistani.

Two days later, police arrested the defendant at the courier company where he worked and took him into custody.

On Sunday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the accused of sodomising the teen.

Medical reports confirmed that the Indian suffers from a form of light mental disability and was not aware of his actions.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal said the defendant will be deported after serving his jail term.

When prosecutors heard the victim’s statement, the teen reasserted his complaint that he was raped.

A police lieutenant testified that the boy and his father walked into the police station and reported what had happened.

“The boy said after he exchanged contacts with the accused, the latter invited him for a car ride. Then the defendant drove off to an unlit street where he offered to have sex with the schoolboy, who refused. The accused touched the boy, removed his clothes and raped him. Two days later, we apprehended the defendant, who admitted that he had met the boy near a grocery store in Al Rashidiya. The 34-year-old said the 18-year-old asked him for Dh10 which he refused to give,” the lieutenant said.

Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
