Dubai: A man, who groped a nine-year-old girl at a furniture store and was apprehended instantly after the girl’s father saw him groping another girl, will be jailed for three months.

The Egyptian girl was in the home lighting section of the store, when her father saw a man groping her daughter in November.

When the father rushed towards his daughter in the home lighting section, the 62-year-old Belgian suspect disappeared among the shoppers. But coincidentally the father saw the suspect groping another girl. The father informed the store security about the incident, who called the police and the suspect was apprehended.

When questioned by police interrogators, the Belgian said he had been addicted to groping minor girls for five years.

On Monday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of groping the minor girl. Presiding judge Urfan Omar said the accused, who had pleaded innocent, will be deported following the completion of his jail term.

The father said that he was a little away when he saw the suspect groping his daughter at 9:30pm.

“I ran towards her but the accused disappeared among the shoppers. While heading towards the suspect to stop him, I saw in a mirror that the suspect groped another girl. I shouted at him ... then police came and arrested him,” he testified.

A police corporal said when he questioned the suspect about the incident, he admitted that he groped the first girl in the home lighting section and the second on in the flowers section.

The corporal testified that the suspect told him during questioning he started groping children five years ago.

Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
