Dubai: A supervisor has been jailed for three months for threatening to disgrace his best friend’s wife by uploading a tape of them having sex on the internet, over a Dh30,000 loan.

The 35-year-old Indian supervisor, B.K., had been having an affair with the wife of his best friend, who is also his countryman, when he recorded a number of sex tapes of them together between 2013 and 2014.

The defendant threatened to shame the housewife if she did not repay the loan.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted B.K. of threatening to disgrace the woman over the phone by publishing their sex tapes on the internet if she did not return his money.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported following the completion of his jail term.

The defendant had entered an innocent plea and refuted his accusations.

The accused was quoted telling prosecutors that he had sex three or four times with his best friend’s wife in India after they fell in love.

“I threatened to publish our sex tapes if she didn’t give me back my money. I had recorded the videos of us having sex earlier. When I called her, I told her that I would publish four sex tapes on the internet if she didn’t repay me,” the accused was cited as telling prosecutors.

However when he showed up in court, he retracted his confession and pleaded not guilty.

A police lieutenant at the cybercrime section testified that the defendant was arrested shortly after the husband reported the matter to the police.

“The husband complained that the defendant had been blackmailing him. The husband claimed to us that B.K. became his best friend after he involved him in resolving their marital problems. The claimant said his wife confided to him that she had been having an affair with the defendant before the latter started blackmailing her over some money she had taken from him. After his arrest, the accused admitted that he had sex with the housewife … he also admitted that he threatened to publish their sex tapes,” said the lieutenant.

Court records said 150 photos of women were found on the defendant’s two mobile phones that were confiscated.

Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
