Dubai: A shop worker has been accused of hiding on a balcony and secretly filming his flatmates — a 29-year-old man and his 24-year-old wife.

The 22-year-old Indian worker, A.A., was said to have sneaked onto the balcony and hidden behind a wall to film them four times in November.

Records said the flatmate discovered that he and his wife were being filmed while changing clothes inside their bedroom.

Prosecutors accused A.A. of molesting his Indian flatmates and breaching their privacy and modesty.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

“No, I did not,” the defendant, who is in custody, told presiding judge Ezzat Mansour.

Prosecutors said the suspect secretly peeped at the couple while they changed and filmed them nude. The married couple claimed they discovered the incident at around 11.50pm when they saw a mobile lens pointing at them.

“We were in our bedroom and the balcony glass door and the curtain were partly opened. While changing our dresses, we spotted a mobile phone from the partly opened curtain and it was directed towards us. I walked instantly to the balcony to check who was filming us … I saw A.A. hiding behind the wall and he was shooting the video. He was standing behind a section that was covered by the curtain. I grabbed him immediately and took away the phone. When I checked it, I discovered that he had taken four footages. The footages contained images of us undressing in the bedroom … there were other footages of my wife in her undergarments,” the husband claimed.

A ruling will be heard in February.
