Dubai: A businessman has been fined Dh10,000 for threatening to kill two men with a cleaver when they intervened and tried to stop him from fighting with another person.
The Emirati businessman, K.A., fought with another person in front of a mosque when two Emirati men tried to calm him down and stop the fight.
The Emirati men had just walked out from a nearby mosque when the defendant pulled out the cleaver from under his clothes and threatened to kill the two men or anybody who tried to stop the fight.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted K.A. of verbally threatening to kill his countrymen and destroying the mobile of one of them that cost Dh2,500.
Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal handed out the ruling in absentia against K.A. after he failed to appear in court and enter a plea.
One of the Emirati men testified that he spotted the accused fighting with another person when he walked out of the mosque.
“I walked quickly towards them wanting to calm them down and try to stop the fight. The defendant shouted loudly that he would kill anyone who tries to stop the fight. Then he took out the cleaver and pointed it at me and said that he would kill me if I tried to stop him,” the man claimed.
Records said the defendant snatched the mobile phone of one of the men and smashed it on the ground.
Police were summoned to the location before the accused was taken into custody for investigation.
As per the Criminal Procedures Law, K.A. is entitled to a retrial once he surrenders himself to the Public Prosecution’s Criminal Rulings Execution Section.
