Dubai: A military personnel has been accused of posing as a Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inspector, luring a stewardess into his car and molesting her.

The 47-year-old Emirati man was said to have stopped the Chinese stewardess in Abu Hail area claiming that he is an RTA inspector and asked her for her driving licence in November.

When the stewardess told him that she had forgotten her licence at home, the suspect invited her to his car claiming that he would take her home to get the licence. Instead of heading to her house, the suspect drove around in Abu Hail area and groped the woman a number of times.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of kidnap and molestation.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

“I did not kidnap or molest her,” the suspect told presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.

Prosecutors said the 47-year-old tricked the Chinese woman and lured her to his car where he touched her indecently.

The stewardess testified to prosecutors that the incident happened while she driving from her residence in Al Mamzar to Abu Hail.

“I went to the parking lot to take the company’s shuttle at 4am. The suspect asked me to pull over after he claimed that he worked for RTA. I showed him the car registration but he wanted to see my licence. I told him that I had forgotten it at home. Then he told me to go with him in his car to get the licence … on the way he took a different route. When I asked him why he had taken a different route, he claimed that he could fine me Dh2,000. He did not coerce me to sit in the front seat … but when I asked him where I should sit, he just pointed to the front passenger seat. Then he touched me indecently,” she claimed to prosecutors.

Presiding judge Al Shamsi adjourned the hearing until the suspect hires a lawyer to defend him on March 16.
