Dubai: A 33-year-old Indonesian maid has been accused of stealing valuables from his sponsor’s bedroom when he was out with his family to celebrate Eid Al Fitr in July last year.

The Emirati sponsor came to know about the theft, when he returned home. When he checked the video footage of his surveillance cameras, it showed the maid fleeing from the villa after scaling the back wall of the villa.

The maid was said to have taken advantage of the fact that she was alone at the villa, according to records, and she stole a gold pendant and a ring and fled.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of robbing valuables worth Dh4,500 from her sponsor’s villa.

The maid pleaded not guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The 38-year-old sponsor told prosecutors that the incident happened during last year’s Eid Al Fitr holidays.

“We left the maid at home around 11am and went out … when we returned home at night, the maid was not in the villa. When I checked the surveillance cameras footage, it showed the maid fleeing from the villa by scaling the back wall. When I checked my valuables, I discovered that she had stolen a ring and a pendant that were kept in a jewellery box in the bedroom. Thereafter I went to the police station and filed the complaint," he told prosecutors.

Dubai Police’s forensic examination report confirmed that the fingerprints lifted from the jewellery box matched with those of the suspect.

A ruling in the case will be announced on June 19.
