Dubai: A maid has confessed to stabbing a woman who stole her boyfriend, but contended in court that it was unplanned and she didn’t try to kill her.

The 28-year-old Nepalese maid, D.M., was said to have attacked the 32-year-old Sri Lankan woman, N.S., with a knife and attempted to kill her shortly after she lost her Pakistani lover to the victim.

“Yes, I tried to stab her and attacked her… but I did not intend to kill her,” argued D.M. when she defended herself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

Prosecutors said D.M. and her Sri Lankan friend [who remains at large] ambushed N.S. on April 2 at her building and dragged her into an elevator. They pepper-sprayed her and stabbed her in the head, breast, shoulder and arm.

The two women were charged with attempted murder.

“What was your intention behind the attack?” presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi asked D.M. in courtroom three.

“We had a brawl and I attacked her but did not have any intention to murder her,” replied the maid.

Records said D.M. and the runaway friend plotted to kill N.S. in an act of revenge after she stole the lover.

The defendants sprayed red pepper in N.S.’s face as the elevator headed for the eighth floor. Then D.M. stabbed her victim with a knife she had hidden under her clothes.

Swift medical intervention and the fact that N.S. defended herself and escaped from her assailants saved the victim’s life.

“The two suspects came out once I reached the building’s entrance. When I walked into the entrance, the runaway sprayed pepper in my face. D.M. pulled me by my hair into the elevator. They beat me and sprayed me with red pepper until the lift stopped at the eighth floor. D.M. stabbed me while the runaway bit me. No one heard my cries for help… I pushed the two and ran away. I ran down the stairs and I rushed to my flat. I called my sponsor immediately and informed him what had happened… then I fell unconscious. I woke up with the police and my sponsor’s daughter in front of me,” claimed N.S.

A Yemeni policeman testified that D.M. confessed to him that she stabbed N.S.

“She claimed that she wanted to kill her because she stole her Pakistani boyfriend r,” the policeman claimed.

The court will appoint a lawyer to defend D.M. when it reconvenes on December 12.
