Dubai: A housewife has been accused of smuggling and possessing hashish and Tramadol pills that she was found hiding inside a Panadol box when she arrived at Dubai International Airport.

Customs inspectors suspected the 47-year-old Egyptian housewife, A.A., once she reached the arrival’s terminal where she was taken into a search room in August.

While searching her, an inspector found two pieces of hashish and 38 tramadol pills that she had hidden inside a Panadol box.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of smuggling and possessing drugs and mind-altering substances for consumption purposes.

The housewife pleaded guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said A.A. smuggled and possessed 187gm of hashish and tramadol pills.

“Yes, I did,” the suspect told presiding judge Urfan Omar.

Meanwhile her lawyer asked the presiding judge to adjourn the hearing until he presents his written defence.

A woman Customs inspector claimed to prosecutors that she found the drugs hidden inside the suspect’s luggage when she searched her in a side room.

“My colleague asked me to check A.A.’s passport once she reached the custom’s counter. Then I accompanied her to a side room to search her. I opened one of her bags, a black one, and found inside it tramadol pills that were inside a box of Panadol. I also found two pieces of hashish that were packaged in golden chocolate paper wrapping to make them look like chocolates. The suspect had denied possessing any banned substances when I first asked her before searching her. Upon confronting her with the findings, she admitted that she had smuggled them for consumption,” she testified to prosecutors.

The court reconvenes on October 24.
