Ajman: A 22-year-old Indonesian housemaid who tore up a copy of the holy Quran at her sponsor’s house in Masfout district in Ajman was convicted on Wednesday of religiously-aggravated offence.
The Ajman Criminal Court found the woman, identified by her initials K.L., guilty and sentenced her to five years in jail, to be followed by deportation.
The ruling was announced by Judge Ebrahim Mohammad Abdullah Al Kamali on Tuesday.
The case goes back to August when the wife of her sponsor accused her that she stole some items from the house but the housemaid told her that she did not steal anything and brought the Holy Quran to swear that she did not take anything.
But the wife of her sponsor did not believe her claims. Then the argument between the housemaid and her sponsor became heated and the maid became angry and tore the Holy Quran.
The sponsor filed a case with Ajman Police against the maid.
The maid confessed to her crime and has been convicted of tearing up a copy of the holy Quran before the case was referred to court.
