Dubai: A gardener has been accused of gagging a housemaid, who worked in the same villa, and forcing her into her bedroom where he raped her.
The 31-year-old Pakistani gardener, D.K., was said to have s hugged the Bangladeshi maid and pushed her into her bedroom when their Emirati sponsor’s villa was empty and had sex with her against her will in January.
Prosecutors accused D.K. of raping the 30-year-old maid.
The suspect pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said D.K. abused the fact that their sponsor was away when he pushed the maid into her bedroom and forced himself on her. He gagged the woman and prevented her from shouting or crying for help.
The suspect contended before presiding judge Ali Abdul Wahhab that he had consensual sex with the maid.
The 30-year-old claimed to prosecutors that the incident happened while her sponsor was away at 4pm.
“The gardener came up to me and claimed that he had finished his work and was leaving … he hugged me from behind and pushed me into my bedroom. When I tried to cry for help, he silenced me. He forced me into the room and threw me on my bed … then he raped me. When my sponsor came home, I told her what had happened. Then we reported the matter to the police,” she testified to prosecutors.
The Emirati sponsor claimed to prosecutors that she saw the maid crying in the kitchen at around 7pm.
“She told me different versions of what had happened. Once she told me that the suspect had waited for her in the bedroom and once she claimed that he dragged her from the kitchen,” the sponsor claimed.
A policeman testified to prosecutors that the suspect denied the maid’s allegations.
“When we questioned him, he alleged that she fabricated the rape claims because she wanted to leave her sponsor’s house,” he claimed.
