Dubai: An employee has been accused of getting drunk and punching a businessman and fracturing his nose after the latter parked his car in an inconvenient manner. The 24-year-old Russian employee, A.S., was said to have consumed liquor and assaulted the Iranian businessman and caused him a permanent disability over a parking scuffle in September.

The defendant failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter his plea on Sunday.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi adjourned the case until A.S. is legally notified about the next hearing on May 11.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the Russian beat up the Iranian and caused him a 5 per cent permanent disability without intending to do so. He also consumed liquor.

The businessman testified to prosecutors that the incident happened when he was driving his car out of the parking space of a residential tower in Dubai Marina.

“My wife was with me and we were leaving the parking around 2am … the suspect came and banged on the window on my wife’s side. I went out of the car and asked him why he had done so. He asked me why I had parked incorrectly. I replied that it was my wife who had parked like that. He then punched me twice and went away. My wife called the police,” the Iranian claimed.

The Iranian man’s wife confirmed the assault on her husband.

A police corporal testified to prosecutors that the Iranian was bleeding when they arrived at the scene.

“They briefed us on what had happened. We went up to the building in search of the defendant. We came across a group of Russians who told us where A.S. was and we took him into custody. The suspect claimed during questioning that when he asked the businessman why he had parked inconveniently, the Iranian scolded him … so he punched him,” the corporal claimed.

The trial continues.
