Dubai: Two men have been accused of confining a jobseeker in a car and stripping her naked in a bid to rape her, before they stopped because she was menstruating.

The Pakistani men, 30-year-old M.M. and 32-year-old S.N., were said to have lured the 37-year-old Filipina jobseeker to their car claiming that they wanted to take her to their company for a job interview in May.

Then they locked the car doors and forcibly undressed her after they tied her up with wires of phone chargers.

Records said the Pakistani duo refrained from raping the woman once they realised that she was menstruating. The duo stole the woman’s cash and mobile phone and threatened to kill her.

Prosecutors accused the suspects of kidnap, attempted rape, theft, assault and threat to kill.

The duo pleaded not guilty and refuted all their accusations when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspects lured the Filipina to their car after they convinced her that they had to take her for a job interview.

After she agreed to meet them in Al Ghubaiba area, according to the charge sheet, they locked the car, tied her up, removed her clothes and tried to rape her. They also threatened to kill her, and assaulted and robbed her.

The Filipina claimed to prosecutors that the suspect posed as employers when they claimed to her that they had spotted her CV on Dubizzle.

“Shortly after I posted my CV on Dubizzle, the suspects called me … I was visiting Dubai and looking for work. I agreed to meet them at a bus station. They picked me up and claimed that they had to take me to the company’s premises in Abu Dhabi for an interview and to familiarise me with the place. S.N. drove while M.M. sat beside me. The latter started flirting with me and touched me … he told me that he had fallen in love with me at first sight and wanted to marry me. When he tried to grope me, I resisted him. They stopped in an uninhabited area and switched seats and then S.N. molested me. The duo assaulted me and tied me up with the wires of battery chargers. They abused me sexually,” she testified.

Records said the suspects did not pursue the rape attempt once they discovered that the woman had her period.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi adjourned the hearing until two lawyers are appointed to defend the suspects on March 2.
