Dubai A truck driver, who hugged, kissed and groped the eight-year-old daughter of his female boss, has been jailed for one year.
The eight-year-old Singaporean girl was put inside a special playroom for children to tell Dubai Police interrogators how the 35-year-old Bangladeshi driver, who worked for her mother’s company, had abused her sexually.
The girl told her mother shortly before bedtime how the 35-year-old accused had hugged and kissed against her will and then touched her private parts in December 2017.
The mother went hysterical and rushed to the nearest police station where she complained about what had happened to her daughter.
Police officers calmed the mother down and took the girl to a special playroom where she acted out with a doll what the driver had done to her.
The girl revealed to the interrogator how the driver had groped her private parts, hugged and kissed her and how he coerced her to touch him.
The 35-year-old accused was apprehended within 45 minutes.
On Tuesday, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Bangladeshi defendant of molesting the minor girl.
When he appeared in court, he pleaded not guilty and denied his accusation.
He contended that he gave the girl a ‘fatherly kiss’ while they were taking photos in front of her aunt.
Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal said the accused will be deported.
The mother testified that her girl told her what had happened to her at bedtime.
“My girl told me that she wanted to tell me an important secret. I was shocked at what I heard from her … she begged me not to tell the suspect what she had told me. She said that when I went to get lunch, the defendant took her to the company’s canteen and molested her. She told me that he did something indecent to her and made her touch him,” she said.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
