Dubai A driver has been jailed for three months for disfiguring a visitor’s face with a razor after brawling with him because he had lent him money to find him a job.

The Ghanaian visitor was searching for a job when a common friend introduced him to the 35-year-old Pakistani driver to help him find a job in a security company in June.

The Ghanaian paid the Pakistani driver Dh14,500 to help him find a job, but the 35-year-old was not able to on time.

Having lost hope and not wanting to lose his money, the visitor called up the driver and asked him to return his money.

The Pakistani however eluded the visitor repeatedly and kept avoiding him until the Ghanaian decided to pay him a visit at his house in Al Nahda.

Leaving his compatriot girlfriend waiting in his car, the Ghanaian went up to the third floor where he had a heated argument with the Pakistani when the 35-year-old assaulted him with a razor.

In the meantime, his girlfriend went up to check and saw the Pakistani assaulting him in the corridor. She rushed down to the car and called the police.

Police rushed to the building and apprehended the driver.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of assaulting the Ghanaian and disfiguring his face.

The defendant, who had pleaded not guilty, will be deported after serving his punishment.

The visitor said the accused assaulted him when he went to claim back the Dh14,500 he had paid him to find a job.

Records said the accused tried to throw the razor away when the police turned up, but it got stuck in the window.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 12 days.
