Sharjah: A doctor and a nurse have been accused of medical negligence resulting in the death of a woman, the Sharjah Misdemeanours Court heard on Tuesday.

The accused have been identified as R.A, who is the owner of a medical centre, and the nurse, identified as S.H.

Prosecutors accused the first defendant of causing the death of a woman by breaching principles of the profession and providing medication at home without an official licence. The accused doctor allegedly prescribed medicine to the patient, who died later at a government hospital in Sharjah.

The nurse has been charged with giving wrong medication at home without a licence.

The two defendants denied the charges, asserting that they received a phone call from the daughter of the deceased, who asked for an ambulance to help her mother.

The mother was transferred to a hospital, where she died after four days, they added. The accused said that there was no medical error by them.

Meanwhile, the defence lawyer, Hani Al Jasmi, said the reputation of his clients was completely damaged and the medical centre never witnessed any medical negligence. His client has been working in the UAE for almost 20 years and never committed any mistake, he said seeking their acquittal.

He also requested the court to summon the relatives of the victim. The case has been adjourned to September 20.
