Dubai: A doctor has been accused of inappropriately touching a woman patient at his house where he was practising unlicensed naturopathy and alternative medicine.

The 47-year-old Indian doctor, K.K., was said to have been treating his 22-year-old countrywoman for menstrual pains and touched her inappropriately while using naturopathy, a form of alternative medicine, in November.

Prosecutors said the defendant abused the woman and used his house to practise medicine without being licensed to do so.

The suspect, who has won awards in alternative therapies, entered a not guilty plea when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

“No, I did not do so,” argued K.K. as he presented what seemed to be medical certificates and awards to the presiding judge confirming that he had behaved ethically.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the doctor molested the 22-year-old woman when he groped her several times while treating her through alternative medicine. He was also charged with using his house as a clinic to practise unlicensed medicine.

The 22-year-old testified to prosecutors that K.K. is very famous for practising naturopathy and alternative medicine in India.

“I got acquainted with him through my father, who was his patient when he had shoulder pain. My dad used to visit him at the clinic where he [the suspect] worked in Jumeirah Lakes area. However, K.K. left the clinic and moved on to practise alternative medicine at his residence in Al Quuz. In September, my dad asked K.K. to train me in alternative medicine in order to open up my own private clinic in the future. I trained with him for a period of time, during which plenty of patients visited him. In November I was suffering from menstrual pain… so I asked K.K. to treat me. I underwent three sessions during which he used to make me relax while he passed his hands over my body. I used to feel slightly uncomfortable while he was touching my body … he also touched me indecently. When he asked me for a fourth session, I realised that he had been molesting me as he had touched me inappropriately. Thereafter I reported the matter to the police,” she claimed to prosecutors.

When questioned before prosecutors, K.K. claimed that he massaged the woman and treated her in a way as required by alternative medicine. He denied her molestation claims.

The trial continues while the doctor remains in custody.
