Dubai: A college student has been accused of assaulting his mother with a knife and stabbing her twice in her neck and chest over ongoing domestic disputes. The 58-year-old Emirati mother was said to have grabbed a stick and walked into the kitchen to scold her 25-year-old son after he claimed that she slept outside the house in April.

The widowed mother indulged in a heated argument with her son, according to records, before the 25-year-old grabbed a knife and attacked his mother.

The student stabbed his mother in her neck and chest before she pushed him away and ran outside the kitchen and called the police.

Police rushed to the family house near Dubai Canal and apprehended the 25-year-old son.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of assaulting his mother with a knife and causing her injuries.

When the suspect appeared before the Dubai Family Misdemeanours Court, he pleaded not guilty.

The mother claimed to prosecutors that the incident happened in the kitchen of their house at 1.15pm.

“One day I was staying inside my room … the Filipina maid came and knocked at my door but I could not respond because I was not feeling well. Shortly after that my son called me and asked me about my whereabouts and if I had slept outside the house … I explained to him that I was not feeling well and that I had been sitting in my room. Two days later, I grabbed a stick and walked in to the kitchen to frighten him for having suspected my fidelity … we had a heated argument that developed into a fight. He got angry, grabbed a knife and attacked me. I pushed him away and ran out of the kitchen and then called the police. We have previous disputes regarding inheritance issues … he constantly creates troubles at home to push me out of the house,” the 58-year-old claimed to prosecutors.

The suspect was quoted as admitting to prosecutors that he attacked his mother with a knife because he was angered by her attitude.

The trial continues.
