Dubai: A clerk has been acquitted of pulling a woman into his flat, throwing her on the floor and molesting her.

Citing lack of corroborated evidence, the Dubai Court of First Instance cleared the 29-year-old Indian clerk, A.A., of molesting his countrywoman.

Prosecutors had charged the suspect with molesting the 23-year-old woman administrator after he pulled her into his flat against her will.

Records said the incident happened when the woman, who worked with the suspect, went to collect come work-related papers from his flat in October.

“I did not touch her. I just pushed her into my flat but I did not molest her as she claimed. Her claims were unfounded and unsupported. I pushed her into my flat because I had wanted to give her some documents … she constantly visited my place. On that day, she did not want to enter, but I pulled her in to give her the papers,” argued A.A. when he defended himself in court.

Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal acquitted the suspect on Tuesday due to insufficient evidence.

The Indian woman had claimed to prosecutors that she went with two other women to the flat after A.A. asked her to come.

“He sent me an SMS asking me to visit his place alone to give me papers. I stayed outside his room and asked him to give me the papers. He pulled me by my arm and locked the door. He threw me down on the floor … I begged him to give me the papers and let me go. I tried to stay away from him, but he pulled me back towards him and touched me. I cried and felt scared … then my friends, who had accompanied me, knocked on the door. When he opened the door, I called the police,” claimed the woman.

However the suspect refuted the woman’s claims and maintained that he did not molest her.

Tuesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
