Dubai: A worker, who hugged and groped a 67-year-old woman while she was opening the door to her flat, has been jailed for three months.

The 26-year-old Pakistani came from behind, hugged and then groped the Indian housewife before he was scared away by the woman’s giant Golden Retriever, who barked furiously at him.

Shortly after the elderly had placed the flat’s key in the keyhole to open the door, the Pakistani came and groped her.

The shocked woman instantly scolded the man, who was still groping her, before her Golden Retriever heard her cries and barked furiously and loudly from behind the door.

The Pakistani accused freaked out and let go of the woman and ran away.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 26-year-old defendant of groping the woman.

According to Wednesday’s ruling, presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported after serving his jail term.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty in court.

The housewife testified that the incident happened at 7.15pm in the corridor of the building where she lives.

“I passed beside the accused and stopped at my doorstep. As I was about to unlock the door, the defendant came from behind suddenly and hugged me. He groped me before I shouted at him. Once my dog heard my cries, it started barking furiously from behind the door … the accused felt very scared and instantly stopped what he was doing and ran away. Obviously he let go of me and rushed out quickly as my dog’s barking freaked him out,” she said.

The building’s security guard said when he saw the defendant, he asked him where was he going.

“He told me he had come to visit a Pakistani friend … then I told him to go up to the second floor because it was the only floor where we have Pakistani tenants. When I was leaving the mosque, the elderly housewife phoned me and told me what had happened. When I checked the CCTV cameras, it turned out to be the same person. Thereafter, we reported the matter to the police,” he testified.

The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
