Dubai: A man has been accused of groping a nine-year-old girl at a furniture store and was apprehended instantly after the girl’s father chased him and found him groping another girl.

The nine-year-old girl was in the home-lighting section when her father saw a man standing behind her and groping her in November. When the father ran towards his daughter, the 62-year-old Indian man disappeared in the crowd. The father then saw in a mirror that the suspect groping another girl.

The father called the security and the police, who apprehended the suspect.

When questioned by police interrogators, the suspect reportedly admitted that he had been addicted to groping minor girls for five years, said records.

Prosecutors charged the suspect with groping a minor girl. The suspect refuted charges when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

The father told prosecutors that there was a distance between him and his daughter when he saw the suspect groping her at 9.30pm.

“I ran towards her but the suspect vanished between the crowd of shoppers. While heading towards the suspect to stop him, I saw a mirror that reflected him groping another girl. Then I shouted at him and stopped him ... police came and arrested him,” he testified to prosecutors.

A police corporal claimed to prosecutors that when he questioned the suspect, the man admitted that he groped the first girl in the home-lighting section and the second girl in the flowers section. “He alleged that he was surprised by the girl’s father, who had exposed him groping the other girl and yelled at him. The suspect claimed during questioning that he is used to touching children and that he had allegedly done that four times earlier ... and that he started groping children five years ago,” the corporal testified to prosecutors.

Presiding judge Omar adjourned the hearing until the suspect’s lawyer reviews the case and presents a defence on January 15.
