Dubai: Two students have been accused of forcing their way into a nursery after midnight and stealing electronics and digital devices.

The students, T.S., a Cypriot, and H.A., an Afghan, were said to have used a knife and a crowbar to break the locks, sneak into the nursery and steal different items in April.

Prosecutors accused T.S. and H.A. of breaking and entering and stealing.

The duo pleaded not guilty and refuted their accusations when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspects stole two servers, a DVD player, two laptops, two digital cameras and a set of keys.

The nursery’s Canadian owner claimed to prosecutors that the nursery’s director informed him that she discovered the robbery on a Thursday morning at 7.30am. “That day she called me and told me that when she went to open the nursery as usual, she found that the doors had been broken and someone had burgled the place. I rushed to the nursery … when I reached the location, I discovered that the thieves had taken different electronics and digital devices. It was obvious that the culprits had used a hard tool with which they wrecked the locks,” he testified to prosecutors.

A police lieutenant claimed to prosecutors that T.S., H.A. and a third juvenile suspect were apprehended in May for their suspected involvement in the alleged robbery.

“Primary interrogations revealed that the three suspects had been involved in breaking into the nursery in Al Safa area and robbing it. During questioning, they claimed that they broke the locks and sneaked into the nursery and stole different items,” he testified.

The two suspects and the juvenile were quoted as admitting to prosecutors that they robbed the nursery.

Records said the juvenile suspect [also a student] is being prosecuted before the Dubai Juveniles Court.

The trial continues.
