Abu Dhabi: Around 490 vehicles were impounded in February this year while 90 licences were withdrawn of drivers for violations in Al Ain, the Abu Dhabi Police announced today.

The violations included not abiding by the speed limit, street racing, overtaking at a red signal, and using a mobile phone while driving, among others.

Maj Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, Head of Traffic and Patrols in Al Ain, said that the number of patrol cars will be increased as the spring break is round the corner.

“Around 53 per cent of traffic accidents that occurred in Al Ain last year were caused by those 18-30 years of age. This is why it is vital to ensure that this age group receives the highest level of awareness on traffic safety,” Al Humairi said.
