23 motorists fined in surprise campaign

Violations include reckless driving and driving without licence

Dubai: A surprise traffic campaign carried out by traffic police on August 29 resulted in 23 motorists being fined.

One of the cars, the police said, had accumulated Dh104,990 worth of fines.

Maj Gen Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director-General of the Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the surprise campaign targeted areas in Bur Dubai where reckless driving was common.

He said that of the 23 motorists, three were fined for reckless driving, three for not having insurance, ten for expired car licences, one for driving without a licence, one for a major change in car colour, one for a major change in the engine, two noisy vehicles and one unlicenced vehicle.

The Ministerial Decree No 127 of 2008, concerns the procedures of traffic control and the application of traffic point systems, Al Zafein said the system is a powerful deterrent and an important step to making road users more focused as well as reduce the number of deaths, injuries and improve road safety.
