Abu Dhabi: The UAE on Sunday condemned brutal attacks and dangerous violations by Israeli colonisers and occupation forces against the sacred Al Aqsa Mosque.

"Bursting into the squares of Al Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding districts by the Israeli occupation forces and turning it into a military barrack is a dangerous act and exposes Israel's frequent attempts to Judaise the holy city of [occupied] Jerusalem," according to a statement issued by the UAE Foreign Ministry.

The statement reiterated the UAE's support for solidarity of the Palestinian people stationed inside the mosque and its squares and the old city.

"Resistance of the [occupied] Jerusalem citizens in the face of the assault provides a strong evidence of their determination to defend the holy shrine by their bodies," the ministry said.

The ministry noted that Israel had used to defile the Al Aqsa Mosque, and Islamic and Christian sacred shrines in the holy city in a flagrant defiance to the sentiments of both Muslims and Christians in different parts of the world.

It added that aggressions perpetrated by the colonisers who are acting on instructions by the Israeli government and its schemes to link Islamic holy places in occupied Jerusalem, and other areas in the occupied Palestinian territories with the Israeli culture and Jewish occasions signal forgery and bare theft of the Arab-Islamic history in the occupied Palestine.

The statement described such acts on orders of the Israeli government as a blatant challenge to the international legitimacy and dangerous breach of resolutions of the UN Security Council and UN General Assembly.

The ministry called on the international community and relevant international organisations to shoulder their responsibility of protecting the cultural identity of the Islamic and Christian sacred places in the occupied Jerusalem.

The statement said that frequent aggressions by Israel and its colonisers, forgery and theft of history pose a brazen defiance to the international community and sentiments of Muslims and Christians in the region and the world at large.

Such acts, the ministry added, undermine international efforts to revive the peace process and achieve security and stability in the region.
