Yemeni parliament lifts immunity of Al Houthi
The Yemeni Parliament has voted for a decree lifting the parliamentary immunity of Yahya Badr Al Deen Al Houthi, brother of the rebel leader who has been in a selected exile in Germany since early 2005.
Sana'a: The Yemeni Parliament has voted for a decree lifting the parliamentary immunity of Yahya Badr Al Deen Al Houthi, brother of the rebel leader who has been in a selected exile in Germany since early 2005.
Yahya Al Houthi is accused by the government of leading and inspiring the armed rebellion which raged since June 2004.
This is the second time the parliament voted for lifting the immunity of the ruling party member.
A Qatari mediation between the rebels and the Yemeni government cancelled late last year a previous decree from the parliament issued in early 2007 lifting Al Houthi's immunity.
Charges
The decision came after the Minister of Justice had submitted a letter to the parliament asking to lift the immunity of Al Houthi.
The letter accused Yahya Al Houthi of participating in forming an armed gang, spurring armed disobedience, inciting non-compliance of the law.
