Sana'a: Tougher measures to combat drug smuggling in Yemen have resulted in the seizure of over 10 million capsules filled with illegal drugs so far this year.
Officials said in a press statement that Captagon pills - a mixture of stimulants - were among the seized drugs.
Captagon is a drug prescribed for the treatment of serious ailments like depression and narcolepsy.
"Over the last few months we have achieved great success in combating drug smuggling.
"We have confiscated about 10 million capsules of drugs," the official news agency Saba quoted Khalid Mutahar Al Radhi, who heads drug control operations at the Ministry of Interior, as saying.
The contraband was unearthed in Al Mualla harbour, concealed in imported electric heaters.
About 1.2 million pills have also been confiscated in Hodeidah harbour over the last few weeks.
