Dubai: The Yemeni prime minister’s plane landed in Yemen’s second city yesterday bringing with it the remaining ministers to the country’s temporary capital, Al Hadath reported.

Ahmad Bin Dagher’s plane landed hours after a major firefight between suspected Islamis terrorists and airport guards, killing at least one civilian.

Bin Dagher said his arrival in Aden was intended to enquire about the needs of citizens and address their concerns, Al Hadath reported, citing the government spokesperson as saying that all members of Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s government were now present in the country.

Aden is the headquarters of the Gulf-backed government of Hadi as the capital Sana’a and swathes of the north and centre of the country are held by Al Houthi rebels.

Earlier at the airport, around 20 gunmen stormed the main entrance road to the airport in the city’s Khormaksar district, demanding the release of a fellow terrorist of Western origin who was detained late last month.

Airport guards repulsed the attack after a 90-minute gun battle, the source said, adding that the civilian was killed by a stray bullet.

The gunmen’s leader told security forces he was a close relative of the detained terrorist, a Western national of Algerian origin.

The detained Westerner was among seven suspected members of the Daesh group whose arrest was announced by the authorities in Aden on May 28.

Separately, rival parties in Yemen’s civil war in Yemen agreed to release all child prisoners they are holding, UN envoy to peace talks in Kuwait Esmail Ould Shaikh Ahmad said on his official Twitter account on Monday.

“The unconditional release of children was agreed, and the mechanics of the release of detainees in the coming days was addressed,” Ould Shaikh Ahmad wrote.

The Iran-allied Al Houthi group and Yemen’s government in exile are trying to reach a peace agreement in negotiations aimed at ending the war that has killed at least 6,200 people and caused a humanitarian crisis in the Arabian Peninsula’s poorest country.

There was no immediate comment from either side’s peace delegation in Kuwait on the UN envoy’s announcement.
