Yemen criticises US for interfering in court verdicts
Yemeni government on Tuesday criticised official American statements condemning a court decision jailing a Yemeni journalist for six years.
Sana'a: Yemeni government on Tuesday criticised official American statements condemning a court decision jailing a Yemeni journalist for six years.
"It is strange to hear the statements of the spokesman of the US department of State on Monday on a court verdict against Abdul Kareem Al Khaiwani after a public and fair trial of a sabotage group targeting security and stability of Yemen and the killing of two security officers and a child," said a statement released by the foreign ministry late on Tuesday.
On Monday, the US State Department spokesperson Sean McCormack said the conviction and sentencing of the Yemeni journalist Abdul Kareem Al Khaiwani "points to a distressing trend in Yemen of intimidation and prosecution of independent journalists in criminal and security courts".
