Aden: Security officials in the Yemeni city of Aden have praised the UAE for its support in helping the country combat terrorist and extremist groups backed by Al Houthi militants.

A video released by the Aden Security Administration demonstrated the successes achieved by security forces in 2016 against terrorist organisations and highlighted the UAE’s role in supporting the city’s security infrastructure and the massive logistical support it offered, which helped drive out terrorist groups from the city and bolstered its security and stability.

The UAE has also offered strengthened security agencies in Aden by providing security equipment, including 18 police cars, 15 motorcycles, 8 fire trucks, 58 other vehicles distributed to police stations, and airport baggage inspection equipment.

The official spokesperson of the Aden Security Administration, Abdul Rahman Al Naqeeb, said that security services had foiled 24 terrorist plots targeting government facilities and public figures in Aden, including car and suicide bombings. Security agencies also carried out 137 raids on dens and hideouts linked to Al Qaida and Daesh.

Security forces also arrested members of terrorist cells, which included those specialising in the manufacture of explosives, and seized weapons and explosive devices.

“The Security Administration of Aden has made major security achievements with the support of our Emirati brothers, which had a prominent role in providing unlimited logistical support to secure the city, track down the remnants of terrorism, and eliminate them in record time,” Al Naqeeb said.
