Dubai: From April 2014 until November 2017, the UAE provided Dh9.4 billion in aid to Yemen.

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UAE’s assistance covering various sectors reflects the leadership’s attention to the future of the Yemeni people, the intention to ease their suffering caused by the destructive policies of Al Houthi militias and provide all essential elements to restore the normal course of life in Yemen, it said.

The lion’s share of the aid worth Dh4.3 billion has gone for supporting public programmes followed by the commodity aid with assistance worth Dh1.6 billion

Power supplies and generation ranked third with aid worth Dh1.5 billion followed by health sector with aid worth Dh611.3 million.

The health aid has gone for opening, renovating and providing medical equipment and medicines to hospitals and medical centres in various liberated areas.

Social services have been also supported by the UAE with assistance worth Dh483.6 million.

Besides these sectors, the UAE supported transportation and storage sectors as well as infrastructure, water and public health among many more.

The UAE prides itself for being on the forefront of countries responding to the needs of Yemenis in liberated areas.

It has also helped in the reconstruction of liberated areas in Yemen, including rebuilding damaged infrastructure and helping restore critical services such as electricity, water and sewage.

It also played a leading role in the restoration and reconstruction of police stations and Civil Defence in Aden, providing them with all equipment and necessary machines to play their role in maintaining security and stability.
