Sana’a: A bomb wounded six Shiite militiamen in the Yemeni capital on Monday, a security official said, the latest in spate of attacks on Al Houthi fighters who overran Sana’a in September.

The blast hit a post of Al Houthi’s police force in the Hayel district of Sana’a, the official said.

It came a day after a bombing claimed by Al Qaida killed four people, including a journalist, at an Al Houthi gathering in the mainly Shiite city of Dhamar, south of the capital.

On Thursday, a suicide bomber killed 49 people at a religious celebration organised by Al Houthi supporters in the militia-held but mainly Sunni city of Ibb further south.

Al Houthis have met mounting resistance from armed Sunnis, including Al Qaida loyalists, since they swept south from the capital into Sunni-majority areas late last year.

Yemen has been dogged by instability since an uprising forced longtime strongman Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in 2012, with Al Houthis and Al Qaida seeking to fill the power vacuum.
