Sana’a: The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has opened five new centres in Sana’a for distribution of food aid to poor families. The move comes as part of the ‘Sanadhum’ campaign to provide humanitarian support to the Yemeni people.

According to Khalfan Al Kindi, Director of the RCA office in Yemen, a study was conducted to identify the needy families, adding that around 2,000 people will benefit daily from the aid distributed through the new centres in Sana’a, in addition to the existing centres in other provinces of Yemen.

“The campaign targets distribution of aid to 100,000 families in Sana’a or 600,000 people at an average of 6 members per family at a total cost of Dh23 million,” he added.

Al Kindi also said the UAE will dispatch six cargo planes to Yemen. Each plane will carry 30 tonnes of foodstuff and other aid materials to be distributed to the needy during Ramadan.
