Sana’a: Police in Yemen said that a man in his 50s was mauled to death by a hyena in northern province of Rayma as he was en route to his house at night.

The ministry of defence reported on Saturday that a relative of the dead man said that the man called his wife after he initially managed to ward off the wild beast.

But as the man was telling his wife that he was standing face to face with the hyena and might not arrive home safely, the animal attacked him again and began clawing at his body.

The wife said that she could hear him screaming for help before giving up. The wife called his sons who rushed to the area and found his skull, legs and ripped clothes.

Locals said that the area is infamous for being a sanctuary for wild animals and the man was warned about walking in the forest-like area at night.
