Abu Dhabi: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr Abdul Latif Al Zayani, has said that the Gulf initiative addressing Yemen’s crisis has steered the country away from a potential civil war.
The Gulf initiative has paved the way for political settlement and the peaceful transition of power in Yemen, Al Zayani said in a lecture delivered in the National Defence College in the UAE.
“The GCC States will continue to exert all efforts alongside regional and international parties to ensure the success of the political settlement in Yemen,” he said.
He pinned hopes that the Gulf initiative would become a good omen for a stable and unified and prosperous Yemen.
Al Zayani praised the support the initiative has received from most regional and international states and organisations, including the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the European Union.
